"Since she’s showing no signs of cleaning up her act and producing music any time soon, the media’s search for a new Amy Winehouse has been almost as frenzied as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s televised searches for a Maria/Joseph/Nancy/lamb to the Eurovision slaughter. The reality is that many of the mooted acts (most famously, Adele and Duffy) bear little resemblance to the Wino other than having a retro sound that since Mark Ronson became rent-a-horn, had become pretty widespread anyway. The point is, the newest new Winehouse is 18 year-old Pixie Lott and at teentoday.co.uk, we like her quite a lot.

Why? Her voice is simply divine. Her material sounds promising. And she looks stunning (then again, who doesn’t compared against Winehouse’s pockmarks, emancipated frame and bird’s nest hair). She’s been working with the likes of Greg Kurstin (responsible for Lily Allen’s brilliant second album) and Red One (as in ‘Red One… Konvict… GaGa!’ – you know the rest!), which can only be a good thing. In fact, you can hear how good on her Myspace, where the Red One song Here We Go Again, is all kinds of ace.

Have a listen to debut single Mama Do below – although obviously heavily influenced by the Winehouse sound, those ‘uh oh’s are deliciously addictive. And if you were in any doubt as to the quality of Lott’s voice, check out her cover of Apologise while you’re at it (yes, yes, another cover of Apologise, this is a good ‘un though, we promise). Youtube evidence shows us that she auditioned, unsuccessfully, to be part of Shitannica High - well, we’re thanking our lucky stars that she didn’t get in! "

I was at school with Pixie at The Italia Conti Academy......she out shone us all in all aspects of dance, acting and singing.....she even won the prize for the most academic person with straight A’s in all subjects! She is such a star and is one of the kindest and sweetest girls you could ever meet.....she never bitched about anyone at school like the rest of us. Because of her 110% commitment in everything Pixie really deserves to do well. Good luck to her, though I know she wont need it!
