Ever since Jessica Simpson split from boyfriend Tony Romo, gossip sites have kept busy dredging up her past romances for story material (case in point: a fictional reunion with ex-hubby Nick Lachey that he quickly denied). The latest of Simpson's exes to be blamed for the break-up is John Mayer, who dated Jess on and off for about a year before they ended the fling for good in 2007. But if the rumors are to be believed, Mayer may be ready for a round two.
A couple of weeks ago, RadarOnline reported that Mayer's constant texting to Simpson caused tension in her relationship with Romo. A source said that the night before her birthday, "they were hanging out and he picked up her phone and she got defensive about it. Tony found messages from John and went ballistic. Apparently Romo dumped her on the spot.
The latest issue of In Touch Weekly also references the supposed ongoing chemistry between Jessica and John, suggesting Mayer would like to give their relationship another try. From the magazine (via Celebitchy):
Since John and Jessica broke up in June 2007 - John continued to text her. A few weeks he even wrote a song for her, a confidante tells In Touch. Jessica liked the attention from John because she never really got over him.
Although John kept sending flirty messages, it wasnt reciprocated by Jessica. She stayed true to Tony, believing he was the one, the confidante explains. She truly loves him.
Jessica will only date [John Mayer] on one condition - that he wont just treat her as a sex object.. She wants a real boyfriend who will commit.
John thinks theres still a lot of unfinished business between them, a friend adds.
Considering John once sent Jessica a DVD of himself in concert when he couldn't make it to her birthday, we'd say business is pretty much finished
