The music mogul is set to take the popular British television show stateside this year, but is yet to announce who will be on the judging panel. He also hasnt revealed whether he will continue work on the UK version of the singing contest, although it is expected he will take time away from it to concentrate on the new project.
Simon is now said to be keen to get Rihanna involved with the programme, and think she would wow television audiences.
To get her on the show would give it real star power, a source explained to Look. Nicole Scherzinger and Cheryl Cole are also being considered for places on the judging panel, because theyve got a proven track record of being great judges, but that doesnt rule Rihanna out. She has a massive appeal and a real edge to her. Simon knows she wouldnt be afraid to give her opinion.
Simon and Rihanna have reportedly already met in Los Angeles to discuss the venture. He is said to have offered her a guest judging spot or mentoring position if she is too busy to commit to working on the whole series.

Oh goody! Rihannas new perfume has landed the seal of approval by PETA!
Rihannas new fragrance Rebl Fleur has been approved by animal rights activists at PETA.
The singer, whose scent will be available from January 25 in the US, has been praised for refusing to use a corporation that tests products on animals.
PETA senior vice president Dan Mathews sent the 22-year-old a big bouquet of flowers to thank her for considering animals.
He told WENN: Rihannas decision to team up with Parlux is as kind to animals as her music is to your ears.
