Britney Spears, Jeff Bridges elected to Celebrity Bowling Hall of Fame
Pop singer Britney Spears and movie star Jeff Bridges have been voted into the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame's Celebrity Hall of Fame following the conclusion of fan voting announced Friday by the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America.
Spears slipped past fellow singer and co-host of the NBC-TV show The Voice Christina Aguilera in the championship round of the bracket-style voting on gobowling.com. Previously, Spears defeated professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, singer Drake and basketball star LeBron James.
Bridges, who portrayed "The Dude" in the movie The Big Lebowski, won the Legacy portion of the bracket over actor Bill Murray, who portrayed "Ernie McCracken" in Kingpin.
Spears and Bridges will join former football stars Jerome Bettis and Lynn Swann and ex-baseball standout Tom Candiotti in the celebrity section of the IBM/HF in Arlington, Texas. They will be formally inducted at a date to be determined.
"With mega stars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in our Celebrity Bowling Hall of Fame, this year's raced proved to be a tight showdown between fierce female finalists," said Steve Johnson, executive director of the BPAA. "We congratulate and welcome Ms. Spears as our 2012 celebrity inductee into the Hall of Fame and applaud all of our celebrity nominees for their continued support and promotion for the great sport of bowling."
Other nominees included two-time Celebrity Hall of Fame runnerup Justin Bieber, National Football League quarterback Tim Tebow, auto racing legend Jeff Gordon, Today Show television personalities Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, and Jersey Shore reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.
