10 เรื่อง ถึง ณ ตอนนี้ ที่มีโอกาสมากที่สุด ในการหลุดเป็น 5 เรื่องสุดท้าย
1. Rachel Getting Married (by Jenny Lumet) – Her dad was nominated for his first feature.
2. WALL•E (by Andrew Stanton & Jim Reardon) – 3 of the last 4 Pixar films got an Original Screenplay nomination. This is by far the best of the last 5.
3. Slumdog Millionaire (by Simon Beaufoy) – A magnificent crowd-pleaser of a script. Just like Juno and Little Miss Sunshine.
4. The Visitor (by Thomas McCarthy) – Snubbed entirely for The Station Agent and this was the critical darling of the first half of the year.
5. Happy-Go-Lucky (by Mike Leigh) – Three nods here since 1997 make it hard to bet against him when the film is good.

6. Synecdoche, New York (by Charlie Kaufman) – This deserves to be higher, but people need to begin showing it some love.
7. The Brothers Bloom (by Rian Johnson) – Brick is better, but there will be a push since its so quirky and twisty.
8. Vicky Cristina Barcelona (by Woody Allen) – When the rare Woody flick is good, you can’t keep him off the shortlist.
9. Changeling (by J. Michael Straczynski) – A writer for Babylon 5, The Real Ghostbusters and He-Man botches a rich story. Will need a Best Picture slot for a nod here.
10. (tie) W. (by Stanley Weiser) – Probably needed another rewrite and 60 more pages.
10. (tie) The Wrestler (by Robert D. Siegel) – Not the most original but could gain some traction.
SIGHTS UNSEEN

4. Australia (by Baz Luhrmann, Stuart Beattie, Ronald Harwood & Richard Flanagan) – That’s a lot of names.
5. Shanghai (by Hossein Amini) – Think Weinsteins might throw all their award dollars to get Woody another nomination?
