Christina Aguilera and Rihanna caused an uproar on British television last night (Dec. 11) after both put on raucous performances seemingly trying to outdo each other for sexy provocativeness.

The performances on the widely watch X-Factor, the UK equivalent of “American Idol,” touched off complaints from viewers. The show is considered family fare.

Aguilera wore an extremely low-cut black dress and cavorted with dancers wearing revealing lingerie, according to London’s Daily Mail.

Rihanna wore hot pants with a strapless bra and bumped and grinded through her performance.

In the UK, programming before 9 p.m., known as the “watershed,” must be family friendly. But both superstars went on before the witching hour prompting an outpouring of comments on Twitter.

“Is it me, or is anyone else shocked at the raunchy performance from Christina Aguilera, being shown before the watershed?’ tweeted one viewer, according to The Mail.

About 21 million viewers, almost one-third of England’s population, tuned in for the show, which was the semi-final.
