CHERYL Cole is set to bounce back to prime-time TV and take on her mentor turned tormentor Simon Cowell.
She is the No 1 choice to head the judging panel for The Voice, a new X Factor-style talent show on BBC1.
And it could be sweet revenge for the singer, whose American dream was shattered after she was ditched from X Factor USA.
The humiliated Girls Aloud star later rejected the chance to return to the UK version of the show.
But Beeb producers reckon shed be perfect to launch their latest weapon in the ratings war as exclusively predicted by the Irish Mirror last month.
Other stars being lined up to join Cheryl, 27, on the four-strong judging panel include Tom Jones and pop star Florence Welch.
Already a huge hit in America, The Voice features auditions where the judges listen without looking at the singer so they are judged on their voice alone. Then each judge has to decide if they want the singer on his or her team. If two or more want the same one, the singer gets to choose.
The winner of the grand final will land a lucrative recording contract.
The show was snapped up by the Beeb in a 28million deal yesterday despite being outbid by ITV chiefs, who offered 35million.
Talpa Media, who own the format, feared being treated as second best to Cowells X Factor if it went with the commercial channel. They also preferred the BBCs ideas for the show.
Delighted BBC1 boss Danny Cohen said: Its a big, exciting and warm-hearted series and will be fantastic Saturday night viewing.
A source said: Its going to be a big show and Cheryl would be the icing on the cake. She is still lying low at the moment, but there have been conversations with her management and things are moving forward. The BBC are hopeful she will commit.
Earlier this month, Cowell claimed he would love to see Cheryl appearing as a judge on The Voice.
I would encourage her to do that, he said. I am not that precious that I dont welcome competition.
