"TVLine has learned exclusively that Supernatural has tapped Canning to guest star as a lust interest for Jensen Ackles’ demon warrior.

She’ll play Lydia, a character executive producer Sera Gamble describes as “wry, independent, and as fun-loving as Dean.” Gamble adds that she and Dean “have a memorable evening that takes an unexpected turn.”

The original casting breakdown for Lydia took things a step further, describing their encounter as a “sizzling one-night stand.”

When speaking with Meghan Ory (aka Once Upon a Time‘s Red Riding Hood aka Ruby), I was sure to run by her the synopsis for Supernatural‘s Episode 11, in which she plays Sally, “a frightened ‘working girl’ who comes to Sam for help.”

Issue No. 1: Why is Sally “frightened”? “Life’s hard when you’re turning tricks,” she explained. “Plus, there’s some stuff going down at the place that she works, and she has nowhere to turn except to Sam.”

Issue No. 2: Why Sam? “He’s in the right place at the right time.”

Issue No. 3: Um, what is this ‘right place” that Sam is at, where he’s rubbing elbows with working girls? A cathouse? “No, no, no,” Ory corrected with a laugh. “Sally works out of a truck stop. She’s a good girl who’s doing everything she can to survive, and Sam is there to help her do that. ”

And Issue No. 4: Will there be (gratis) sparks with Sam? “Aren’t there always sparks with Sam? At any given moment?” Ory countered, effectively.

Specifically, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. TV says that Collins will appear as a guest star in Episode 17 as well as in at least two additional episodes beyond that - though not necessarily as fallen angel Castiel.

"It has always been our intention to bring back Misha in some form," executive producer Sera Gamble hedged shortly after Castiel famously exited the canvas earlier this season. "We certainly can’t say too much about where the story is going to go, but we love Misha and want to continue to work with him."

This past Friday, Supernatural aired this season’s 10th episode, which served as the fall finale. The CW series returns with fresh episodes on Jan. 6.

Around or before the time Collins resurfaces on Supernatural, he will also be guesting on The CW’s Ringer, appearing in that freshman thriller’s 14th episode.

"I can confirm that the character of Castiel is returning to 'Supernatural,'" he told us. "I'm not supposed to talk about any details, but I will tell you this: The character is coming back somewhat changed. I'm not going to tell you everything, but I will tell you that the "new" Castiel no longer wears undergarments."

Since it's almost impossible to get a straight answer out of Collins on even a normal day, we're happy to take what we can get. We did ask Collins whether he could confirm that Castiel will return as himself, rather than as a Leviathan or as his vessel, Jimmy Novak, as some have speculated, but he deferred, "I cannot confirm or deny that."

Ever since the mid-season finale, Supernatural fans are in mourning for their dear Bobby Singer, played by Jim Beaver. But, what does Beaver have next in mind? Well, the actor has announced himself that he'll be reprising his role in the upcoming season.

The actor revealed on his Twitter tonight that he'll be returning to his role of Shelby, a mine manager that crossed paths with Boyd in the middle of last season for one episode. He said that his tenure on the show "could be as many as 7 episodes, maybe more."

No word yet on whether or not this means his character will play a big role in the third season's storyline, or whether he will simply play a recurring supporting part for his time on the series.

Justified is headed into its third season, after an Emmy win in September, and will premiere on the network on January 17th, 2012.

Supernatural enjoyed a nice little numbers spike for its midseason finale, picking up nearly half a million viewers as it closed out 2011. Make no mistake, these are low numbers, but add up the combination of Friday night TV, the fact that it's a CW show and the dedicated fanbase, and Supernatural is far from dead.
